Developing the Workforce

Empowering the Workforce

This really is a hot topic at the moment as FS businesses look to stabilise their workforces, save yet more money with which to rebuild their coffers and think long-term again. Apart from in a few high profile places e.g. senior execs into Barclays Capital, most of the FS industry has spent 2009 reducing headcount. The Retail and Investment Banks have been hardest hit with ongoing rounds of redundancy. By contrast many of the Insurers are trying to get by with recruitment freezes and "natural wastage". Of course what the crisis has really bought into stark focus is the relatively high cost of the North American and European FS workforces when compared with their Asian and South American colleagues.

When it comes to the workforce global thinking is back in. Being "location agnostic" is the new black and it looks like the time is right.

Strategically the following workforce topics are hot. Why? Because they all promise to deliver on the challenge of "doing better for less".

  1. Global Workforce Sourcing - How to ensure that I have the best people, in the most useful geographic locations, at the best possible value. If you'd like to talk to one of our experts to understand how FS organisations are tackling this tricky problem then drop Andy Crossey an e-mail at andrew.crossey@capgemini.com
  2. SMART Working - How to ensure that I minimise my office-based costs, increase staff flexibility and improve my health, safety and attendance records. Having just finished two ground breaking research projects with the CIPD we are ideally placed to help you get to grips with the challenges involved (the people, the processes, the policies and the technologies). 3. New HR Operating Models - How to ensure you can offer up some really innovative ideas to the CEO for reducing the cost of HR. We think we have a real handle on what comes after the Ulrich model - and it's way more cost effective. For more information contact andrew.crossey@capgemini.com.
